Michael Jackson’s New Album ‘Xscape’ Due May 13th

The King Of Pop is coming back: on May 13, Epic Records will release Xscape, an album featuring eight brand new, previously unheard tracks by Michael Jackson. The world will hear the new tunes due to the efforts of Epic Records chairman and erstwhile X Factor judge L.A. Reid, who was granted unlimited access to Jackson’s archives by his estate. In the archives, Reid uncovered what a press release calls “four decades of material on which Jackson had completed his vocals.”

Reid selected eight tracks for the album and then sent them out to be retooled by producers, including Timbaland, in a process Reid calls “contemporizing.” While that sounds potentially ominous (as in adding an ’80s sax solo to a Ramones song could be considered “contemporizing”). Reid apparently only chose producers who had “the gravitas, depth and range” to maintain the “essence and integrity” of Jackson’s work.

Fingers crossed, Jackson fans. “Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with,” said Reid in the press release. “We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world.” As for the title of the new album, it comes from a song written and produced by Michael Jackson and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. According to the press release, “Xscape” is the only track on the album to be “contemporized” by the producer who recorded it originally in the studio with Michael.

Petey Pablo's Next Stop After Prison? Timbaland's Studio

Petey Pablo was only released from prison on Thursday morning (March 13), but the "Freek-a-Leek" rapper already has plans to take over the rap game. With the drama stemming from his 2010 gun charge behind him — the North Carolina MC served time on a 35-month sentence in federal prison — Petey is so pumped to win that he's taking cues from Will Ferrell's Ricky Bobby, the fictional race car driver who stops at nothing to get to the #1 spot. "I just want to say that I'm totally glad to be back in the race and behind the wheel of a car that has been fine-tuned for the greatest performance," Pablo (born Moses Barrett) said in a press release issued to MTV News after his release from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey this morning. Back in 2001, Pablo scored a breakout hit with the Timbaland-produced "Raise Up," and now he plans to go back into the studio with his old friend ... for some "Talladega Nights"-themed work.

Timbaland to Produce Music for Lee Daniels’ Hip-Hop Pilot

Grammy Award-winning Timbaland has signed on to write and produce the music for the Fox pilot, “Empire,” Variety has learned. The family drama, which is penned by Daniels and Strong and directed by Daniels, is set in the world of the hip-hop industry and stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. It’s executive-produced by Daniels, Strong, Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. It will feature original and current music.

This world is something Tim “Timbaland” Mosley understands well. In 2013 alone, the sought-after producer, songwriter and rapper produced and co-wrote multiple tracks on four of the year’s biggest selling multi-platinum-albums: “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” “The 20/20 Experience Part I” and “Part II,” and “Beyonce.”

Chris Brown Announces Album Release Dates Again

Chris Brown has set a new date for his next album, “X”: May 5, 2014. Breezy tweeted the new release date today Sunday, calling “X,” “by far my best album yet.” Brown’s sixth studio album has been delayed more than once. In October, he set the release date for November after a planned July release didn’t materialize. Last August, he surprised fans by tweeting, “Don’t worry mainstream America. After this X album, it’ll probably be my last album.”

“Love More,” featuring Nicki Minaj, “Don’t Think They Know” featuring Aaliyah, and “Fine China” have been three early tastes of “X.” For Brown, R&B and soul has been a focus in his recent music-making. “I wanted to touch musically on Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke,” Brown told Billboard, “and incorporate those influences with the new.”
As previously reported, “X” wil feature Brown collaborating with Timbaland, Danja, Diplo BAM, Drumma Boy, CP Dubb, Mel and Mus, Verse Simmonds and Camper.
